NutriTears® clinical study
information!* Read Here!
This peer-reviewed randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial (155 adults, 8 weeks) tested the lutein, zeaxanthin, curcumin and vitamin D3 blend used in Blink® NutriTears®. Blink® NutriTears® met both primary endpoints — significantly improving tear production (Schirmer's test) and dry eye symptoms (OSDI) versus placebo by Day 56 (p<0.001) — and also improved tear break-up time, osmolarity, corneal and conjunctival staining, and the inflammation marker MMP-9. The authors conclude once-daily supplementation is a well-tolerated adjunct to artificial tears for dry eye symptoms.

Optometric Management's "Bettering the Body" shows how three eye care KOLs — Julie Poteet, OD; Neda Gioia, OD; and Laura M. Periman, MD — use Blink® NutriTears® in practice as an ocular nutritional supplement that improves dry eye from the inside out. It recaps the Frontiers in Ophthalmology study (improved tear production, stability, TBUT, osmolarity, staining and MMP-9) and shows clinicians positioning the lutein/zeaxanthin/
curcumin/vitamin D3 formula against ocular surface inflammation and nutritional deficiencies. Periman places Blink® NutriTears® in the "nutritional support" pillar of her Five Pillars of Wellness.

Women In Optometry summarizes the clinical study behind Blink® NutriTears®, Bausch + Lomb's daily supplement of lutein, zeaxanthin, curcumin and vitamin D3 for dry eye. In 155 adults it met both primary endpoints — significantly improving tear production and OSDI symptom scores versus placebo — with symptom gains by Day 14 maintained to Day 56 and no serious adverse events. The piece frames dry eye as increasingly affecting younger people (nearly 70% attribute symptoms to screen time) and quotes investigator Neda Gioia, OD, on restoring tear-film homeostasis.

Healio Optometry, reporting from the American Academy of Optometry's Academy 2024 meeting, covers a multicenter, double-blind study showing Blink® NutriTears® (Bausch + Lomb) significantly improved tear volume and dry eye symptoms versus placebo. In 155 adults with mild-to-moderate dry eye, the once-daily soft gel — a blend of curcuminoids, lutein and zeaxanthin, and vitamin D3 — improved tear volume at Days 28 and 56 and lowered Ocular Surface Disease Index scores at Days 14, 28 and 56, and met all secondary endpoints (tear break-up time, SPEED score, corneal staining) from Days 28 to 56. Only one participant per group reported a non-serious adverse event; investigator Neda Gioia, OD, urges clinicians to offer nutritional support earlier in the dry eye journey.
